Road-trip audiobook finder

Find a family audiobook that ends before the trip does.

Give us the drive time, the ages in the car and any subjects you want to leave out. We check exact audio editions and hold back 15 minutes for rest stops, missed exits and finding the hotel entrance.

What are we working with?

A rough estimate is fine. Nobody listens for every minute of a road trip.

Catalog topics to filter out Choose up to three.
We hide books carrying these tags. An untagged book is not a guarantee that every related moment has been identified.

The arithmetic

Why these books, in this order

The first plan is the closest use of the time that still covers both entered ages and filters out any matching catalog tag. A plan never runs past the available book time. If two plans are close, the one with the better mood match comes first.

What gets checked

Runtime belongs to a recording, not a title.

Every recommendation points to the edition used in the calculation. Age notes and road-trip fit come from separate sources. Story briefs summarize the plot; topic tags are an editorial screen and may be incomplete.

  • Exact edition, narrator and runtime
  • An age range that includes every child entered
  • The selected suspense level and current catalog tags
  • A current recommendation or professional audio source
  • A library search before the retailer link

Catalog last checked September 2, 2026.

The awkward parts

Some trips need a more specific answer.

The number of hours may be easy. Finding one story for a first grader and a teenager, or avoiding a scene nobody wants on the car speakers, is usually harder.
